Diversion from Custody
Reducing Potential Risks
The Diversionary Program is aimed at reducing the potential risk/s to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults being held in police watchhouse custody for public intoxication related offences.
The Diversionary Centre is a 14-bed facility located at 15 Hubert Street Woolloongabba, and provides:
- a safe and monitored environment for adult clients who are recovering from intoxication;
- an alternative to being taken into police custody for public intoxication offences;
- care, support and culturally appropriate referral services (health, mental health, healing, rehabilitation, legal, accommodation) to facilitate the health and wellbeing of clients; and
- access to meals, refreshments (tea/coffee), showers, clean clothing, and laundry facilities

Staff training
Support Workers attended the following training during the reporting period:
- First Aid and CPR
- Fire Safety
- All staff completed free online COVID-19 training.
- Staff attended a Suicide Intervention Skills Training Workshop in Ipswich in July and all staff received a certificate on completion
- Some Support Workers attended Star Outcomes Case Management Training
